A joint operation by the Army, J & K Police and CRPF is underway in Shopian after surveillance cameras detected two suspected terrorists hiding in an orchard

Security forces have launched a massive anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Shopian district after surveillance cameras detected the movement of two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists inside an orchard, prompting the Army to seal all possible escape routes.

A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon-and-search operation after receiving the surveillance input. Authorities have tightened the security grid across the area to prevent the terrorists from slipping out.

According to officials, there are seven villages in the vicinity of the orchard. Security forces have already cleared four villages while search operations continue in the remaining areas. Additional troops have been deployed to plug all possible escape routes and carry out intensive searches.

The operation was launched after camera footage indicated the presence of two armed terrorists believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Security personnel are using drones, surveillance equipment and area domination patrols to track their movement.

Officials said the operation is being conducted with utmost caution to ensure the safety of civilians while maintaining pressure on the terrorists. Residents have been advised to cooperate with security forces and avoid the operational area until the search is completed.

The operation is part of the security forces’ sustained counter-terror strategy in south Kashmir, where surveillance-driven intelligence and coordinated operations have led to increased pressure on terror networks operating in the region.
