Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation after a policeman was martyred
A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was killed on Tuesday after terrorists attacked a Special Operations Group (SOG) team conducting a search operation in Anantnag district, prompting security forces to launch a massive manhunt for the attackers.
According to officials, the SOG team had moved into the area following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists. During the operation, the personnel came under heavy gunfire from militants hiding in the vicinity.
One police constable sustained critical injuries in the exchange of fire and later succumbed despite efforts to save him. His sacrifice marks another reminder of the continuing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, where anti-terror operations remain active.
Soon after the attack, reinforcements from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the area. Security forces sealed off the locality and launched an extensive search operation to track down the terrorists responsible for the ambush.
Officials said surveillance drones and additional personnel have been deployed to prevent the militants from escaping the cordon. The operation was continuing at the time of filing this report, and further details are expected once the area has been fully sanitised.
The latest attack comes amid intensified counter-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir, with security agencies continuing their efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent infiltration into the Union Territory.
