Reuters/Ipsos poll shows declining public support as economic concerns and foreign policy tensions grow

Public approval for Donald Trump has fallen to 36%, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, reflecting growing concern among Americans over rising living costs and the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The survey shows a noticeable drop from 40% approval just a week earlier, marking one of the lowest approval ratings for Trump since returning to the White House.

    Economic concerns drive dissatisfaction

The poll indicates that economic worries are a major factor behind the decline. Rising fuel prices have emerged as a key concern for voters, with only about 25% of respondents approving of Trump’s handling of the cost of living.

Confidence in the president’s economic leadership also appears weak, with just 29% approving of his management of the economy. The figure is even lower than approval levels recorded during the presidency of Joe Biden, highlighting the growing anxiety among voters about inflation and household expenses.

    Iran conflict influences public opinion

The ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran has also weighed on public sentiment. Support for US military strikes has declined slightly, with 35% of Americans backing the action while 61% oppose it, according to the poll.

Many respondents also expressed concerns about the long-term impact of the conflict. Nearly half believe the situation could make the United States less safe in the future, while only a small percentage think it will improve national security.

    Rising fuel prices add pressure

Since the conflict escalated, petrol prices in the US have reportedly increased by around one dollar per gallon, adding further pressure on household budgets.

Analysts warn that sustained high fuel costs could have wider economic implications, potentially affecting inflation and everyday expenses for consumers.

    Republican base remains supportive

Despite the decline in overall approval, Trump continues to maintain strong backing from Republican voters. However, even within the Republican Party, concern is rising about the growing cost of living.

The drop in approval ratings could influence upcoming elections. While the Democratic Party may see an opportunity in the shifting public mood, polls suggest Republicans still hold a slight advantage among voters on economic issues.
