Rare recording emerges amid months of speculation over Iran leader’s health and whereabouts
Iran has released rare footage featuring Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s voice, marking the first known public recording of him speaking since the war began. The video shows the 56-year-old leader presiding over a religious academic study session and assessing a student’s thesis.
The footage was released by Iran’s Fars news agency, although it remains unclear when it was recorded. In the video, Mojtaba is heard discussing the “Islamic Security Model” and giving the student a score of 19.5 out of 20, calling the thesis flawless.

The release comes after months of speculation over Mojtaba Khamenei’s health and whereabouts. He has largely remained out of public view since succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following the February 28 US-Israeli strikes. Earlier reports had claimed he suffered serious injuries in the attack.

The latest footage therefore offers a rare glimpse of the reclusive Iranian leader amid continuing questions about his health and role in Tehran’s wartime decision-making.
