Assam Industry Minister Siddique Ahmed on Thursday said peace and security have returned to the northeastern state, which is now seeking investments across various sectors.
“The atmosphere of fear is no longer there in Assam,” Ahmed said while inaugurating the Assam Day celebrations at the India International Trade Fair here.
“The government is holding talks with the insurgents groups be it the ULFA or the NDFB,” he added.
Stating that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi started a “Make in Assam” campaign ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative, he said that given that government jobs were limited the industrial sector in the state must be developed.
“Assam is the gateway to the northeast. If Assam develops, the northeast develops,” he said.
A cultural programme was held as part of the Assam Day celebrations at the IITF.
