On July 7 evening Economic Times (ET) came out with a critical analysis on the diminished role of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s in the Narendra Modi cabinet after the reshuffle. But within a few hours, the Economic Times pulled out the article, written by Aashika Jain. The article is titled “Is Modi losing trust in Jaitley? Cabinet reshuffle points to FM’s shrinking clout”. What prompted this drastic move? Doesn’t ET realize that once it is out on the Internet, the genie is out of the bottle?
This is not the first time that the articles against Jaitley were taken out. Sometime back, noted editor R Jagannathan’s piece on Jaitley was also taken out from FirstPost web portal.
This begs the broader question – Should Freedom of Expression be applied equally or selectively? The media does not think twice about criticizing the Prime Minister and those posts are there for eternity; others get taken down after going online if the content is not to the liking of the object of interest.
