CBI arrests Manish Sisodia in Delhi excise policy case after 8 hours of questioning

On Sunday the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that they arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia for alleged irregularities in framing and implementation of the excise policy as he gave “evasive replies” and “did not co-operate in the investigation”.

After a day of political drama, CBI arrested Sisodia in the excise policy scam. He will be produced before Rouse Avenue District Courts on Monday, and the CBI will seek two weeks’ custodial remand as it needs to confront him with the co-accused and documentary and digital evidence.

Sources claimed that Sisodia was questioned about the documentary, electronic, and digital evidence that the CBI gathered during the probe into the scam. He has been accused of destroying evidence and being the mastermind of the excise policy scam.

The present case was registered against the deputy Chief minister & In charge Excise Minister, and 14 others for an investigation into the matter of alleged irregularities in framing and implementation of the Excise Policy for 2021-22 and extending post tender benefits to private persons.

A charge sheet was filed on December 25, 2022, against the then-CEO of a Mumbai-based private company and six others. Sisodia was issued a notice under Section 41A of the Cr.P.C for attending the investigation on February 19.

“However, Sisodia sought time of one week citing his pre-occupation. Accepting his request, he was issued a second notice under Section 41A Cr.P.C for attending the investigation on February 26. He was called to answer various questions which he evaded during his examination on October 17, 2022, and further questions relating to his incriminating role based on evidence collected during the investigation of the case,” said the CBI.

However, it claimed that Sisodia “gave evasive replies and did not co-operate the investigation despite being confronted with evidence to the contrary” and was therefore, placed under arrest.

Sisodia was earlier asked to appear before the CBI on February 19, but he had sought deferment of his questioning, citing the ongoing Budget exercise. The CBI accepted his request and issued him a second notice to join the probe on February 26.

Rapid Action Force personnel was deployed outside the CBI office to maintain the law-and-order situation. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has also deployed additional force to prevent untoward incidents.

Earlier on Sunday, Section 144 was imposed in and around the areas near the CBI headquarters to prevent gatherings.

  1. Strange & Interesting – All the convicts of the world are of firm belief that the society & justice system has wronged them !!

They themselves did not do anything wrong – society, environment & justice system is wrong !!

  2. He was one of the leading lights in the INDIA AGAINST CORRUPTION. He will now go through the process which the Judges called a punishment. The Sibals, Singhvis, Daves , Bhushans and the likes will rake in big fees, to avoid that and to put an end to distrust in the agencies why not have a provision of advance ruling pre-arrest? Let the judiciery decide if the arrest is warranted to put and end to unlimited TAMASHA.
