With military tensions already running high, Trump’s latest remarks add another layer of uncertainty as Washington and Tehran continue exchanging threats
US President Donald Trump has said he has already issued instructions for a powerful military response if Iran attempts to assassinate him, warning that such an attack would trigger overwhelming retaliation. His remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges and the collapse of the ceasefire.
Speaking during an interview, Trump said any attempt on his life by Iran would be met with an immediate and decisive response. He claimed the instructions had already been put in place but did not disclose operational details.
Trump issues stern warning to Iran
Trump said he had left clear directives for US officials regarding how the country should respond if Iran carried out an assassination attempt against him.
“If they did that, they would be obliterated,” Trump said, adding that the United States would launch an overwhelming military response in such a scenario.
The comments come against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the two countries after the United States carried out fresh strikes on Iranian targets, prompting Tehran to issue repeated warnings of retaliation.
Remarks come amid renewed US-Iran tensions
Relations between Washington and Tehran have sharply deteriorated in recent weeks following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, retaliatory military strikes and the breakdown of the ceasefire announced earlier.
Trump recently declared that, in his view, the ceasefire was effectively over, although he said diplomatic channels could remain open.
Iran, meanwhile, has warned that any future military action by the United States would invite a “reciprocal response.”
US says Iran has previously threatened Trump
US authorities have previously alleged that Iran was involved in plots targeting Trump, claims that Tehran has consistently denied.
The renewed rhetoric comes as security agencies continue to monitor potential threats against current and former American officials amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Middle East remains on edge
The latest exchange of warnings underscores the fragile security situation in the Middle East, where repeated military confrontations have fuelled concerns about a wider regional conflict.
Analysts say continued escalation between Washington and Tehran could have significant implications for regional stability, global energy markets and international diplomacy.
