Delhi Excise Policy scam: ED arrests AAP media promotion in-charger Vijay Nair, businessman Abhishek Boinpally

In a fresh development into the Delhi Excise Policy scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) media promotion in-charge Vijay Nair and businessman Abhishek Boinpally under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Vijay Nair, who is also communications chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested along with businessman Abhishek Boinpally, accused of lobbying for certain liquor businessmen based in Southern India. Both of them are currently in jail after their arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Earlier, the two were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and remanded into judicial custody after questioning. The court was all set to hear arguments on their bail application later in the day.

The CBI had arrested Boinpally for framing and implementing the excise policy of GNCTD of Delhi. Nair, Delhi’s Jor Bagh-based businessman, was the first one to be arrested by the CBI.

Boinpally is a prominent businessman from Hyderabad and his name cropped up during the course of the investigation. He was called to join the probe but did not cooperate with the probe agency and allegedly tried to mislead it. He was not named in the FIR.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate had carried out as many as 169 search operations in this case so far and arrested many top executives, including the promoter of liquor company Indospirit, the general manager of the liquor company, and the whole-time director and promoter of Aurobindo Pharma.

  1. Politicians to be stripped of any decision making other than making legislative laws. They should not be allowed to be involved in tenders. It should be exclusive domain of civil bureaucracy and anything going wrong the Babus should be held accountable & punished.
