Gold, cash collected through private receipts at MP temple; probe launched
The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the collection of donations at the renowned Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Agar-Malwa district after complaints claimed that cash, gold and silver offerings were being collected through an unauthorised parallel system.
The district administration has constituted a three-member committee to investigate claims that an unregistered organisation allegedly collected donations inside the temple premises by issuing private receipts and depositing the funds into private bank accounts. The panel has been directed to submit its report within seven days.
Allegations of private receipt system
According to the complaints, devotees offering cash, gold and silver ornaments were allegedly issued receipts from privately printed receipt books instead of the official temple donation system.
The allegations further claim that these collections were not reflected in the temple’s official accounts and were instead routed through private bank accounts.
Three-member committee to investigate
Agar-Malwa Collector Preeti Yadav has appointed a three-member inquiry committee headed by District Panchayat CEO V.S. Solanki. The committee has been tasked with inspecting the temple premises, examining receipt books, bank records and other financial documents, recording statements and identifying accountability if any irregularities are established.
Government promises strict action
Madhya Pradesh Religious Trusts and Endowments Minister Dharmendra Lodhi said the individuals allegedly involved were not part of the officially constituted temple management committee.
He said the government would take strict action against anyone found guilty after the inquiry is completed.
Political reactions
The allegations have triggered a political debate in the state, with Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar demanding a transparent investigation into the handling of devotees’ offerings.
He called for strict accountability to ensure that donations made by devotees are managed in accordance with established procedures.
The Maa Baglamukhi Temple at Nalkheda is one of Madhya Pradesh’s prominent religious sites and attracts thousands of devotees every year, particularly during Navratri and other major festivals. The inquiry is expected to determine whether any financial irregularities occurred in the collection and management of temple donations.
