External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of President-Elect Donald J Trump, scheduled to take place on January 20 in Washington, D.C. The event marks Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the visit in a statement on Sunday, noting that Dr. Jaishankar will attend the event at the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee.
“On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America,” the MEA stated.

Diplomatic significance of the visit

- Donald Trump’s Oath: Trump will take the presidential oath at noon (Eastern Time) in front of the Capitol, administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
- Vice President-Elect J D Vance’s Oath: Prior to Trump’s swearing-in, Vice President-Elect J D Vance will also take his oath of office.
