Poonch encounter: None of the terrorists neutralized

Four Army personnel sacrificed their lives and three others received critical injuries after their vehicles were ambushed by the hiding foreign terrorists in the general area of Dera ki Gali in the Poonch district on Thursday.

A month ago, five Indian army personnel including two officers were ‘killed in action‘ in the Kalakote forest area of Rajouri on November 22.

This is the eighth major attack on security personnel since October 2021 in the region.

Meanwhile, the audacious strike has once again raised question marks as none of the terrorists were neutralized even after inflicting fatal injuries on the Indian Army personnel in broad daylight.

The images emerging from ground zero suggested the troops were ambushed in a planned manner by the group of foreign terrorists. The terrorists were aware of the timing of the movement of troops in the area and waited for the opportune time to hit them. The terrorists punctured tyres of the Army vehicles before launching an audacious strike.

The fact that the terrorists could not be neutralized suggested they may have run away inside the densely forested area after targeting the Army personnel without facing any resistance.

Jammu-based Defence Spokesman, Lt-Col Suneel Bartwal issued a statement claiming the Army vehicles were targeted at approximately 3:45 PM on Thursday when the troops were moving to the operational site in the general area of Dera Ki Gali. The terrorists, hiding in the area, targeted the army vehicles. The fire was retaliated effectively. In the ongoing operation, three Indian Army jawans laid down their lives and three others received injuries. The Army personnel cordoned off the entire area to flush out the hiding terrorists. Additional troops were rushed to the spot to launch massive search operations.

According to a Defence spokesman, a joint operation was launched in the Dera Ki Gali on December 20 soon after receiving intelligence reports about the suspected movement of terrorists in the area.
