Direct air travel between India and China likely to restart soon

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong during which the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations and agreed to continue to “stabilise and rebuild ties” with priority on people-centric engagements, said India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Friday. The meeting took place on Thursday, and the two sides also agreed to expedite the steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries.

Misri had held talks with Sun earlier on January 27 in Beijing.

Sun Weidong is on a visit to India from June 12-13, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement. During the meeting on Thursday, “the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Beijing on January 27, 2025 and agreed to continue to stabilise and rebuild ties with priority on people-centric engagements“, the MEA said.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri appreciated the Chinese side’s cooperation for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year.

Misiri noted the discussion in the April meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism for cooperation in trans-border rivers for resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation, and hoped for progress on them, the MEA said. “The two sides agreed to expedite the steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries. Foreign Secretary hoped for the early conclusion of an updated Air Services Agreement,” it said.

India and China further agreed to take “practical steps” for visa facilitation and exchanges between media and think-tanks. “The two sides positively assessed the activities planned under the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China and agreed to facilitate the same,” the statement added.

  1. China & Porkistan relation is like the teenage love = loves me, loves me not, loves me, loves me not……
It is a “threesome” game, USA, Porkistan, China. What is common in them is all are opportunists & have no principles of engagement, They go or change with wind.
Need any engagement to be on India’s terms with these countries for history shows that they ditched everyone for they do not have parents

  2. Won’t be a surprise if China starts to dump Pakistan. The money sunk in the so called all weather friend with no hope of returns might just fore that decision. The military counterbalance to India that was expected has turned out to be disaster despite the famous nuclear saber rattling. All the money poured in Pakistan has only enriched the corrupt military and some politicians. If western corridor from north to Gwadar port can be established by conceding legitimate land to India and seeking Indian help in return to pacify the Pathans, and Baluch with assured returned to them, the Chinese may find a way to mitigate the huge losses caused by the lying thieves of the incompetent Pakistan Army.
