“UNSTOPPABLE” and “How NARENDRA MODI is CHANGING INDIA and THE WORLD,” says the cover page of US’s Newsweek magazine

In an interview with US Newsweek magazine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India and China share an important relationship and that the India-China border situation needs to be addressed urgently to resolve the “abnormality” in the bilateral interactions.

The Newsweek interview, conducted by the prominent magazine’s global editor-in-chief Nancy Cooper, CEO Dev Pragad, and Editorial Director (Asia) Danish Manzoor Bhat, is a case in point, with the cover photo of the magazine featuring PM Modi – only the second Indian Prime Minister to figure on the cover – and the caption reading: “UNSTOPPABLE” and “How NARENDRA MODI is CHANGING INDIA and THE WORLD“.

A stable India-China relations are important for the entire world, hoping that the two neighbours will be able to restore peace at its borders through positive engagement, PM Modi said in the interview.

“For India, the relationship with China is important and significant. It is my belief that we need to urgently address the prolonged situation on our borders so that the abnormality in our bilateral interactions can be put behind us,” said the Prime Minister.

“Stable and peaceful relations between India and China are important for not just our two countries but the entire region and world. I hope and believe that through positive and constructive bilateral engagement at the diplomatic and military levels, we will be able to restore and sustain peace and tranquility in our borders,” he said while speaking to the New York-based magazine.

PM Modi also commented on the India-Pakistan relations, “I have congratulated the Prime Minister of Pakistan on taking over office. India has always advocated for advancing peace, security, and prosperity in our region in an atmosphere free from terror and violence,” he said.

Asked about the imprisonment of Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan, he refused to comment on internal matters of the neighbouring country.

Newsweek magazine also quotes Foreign Policy magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Ravi Agrawal’s view of how the PM’s launch of a new nation-building initiative, by “projecting an image of a more powerful, muscular, prideful” country is increasingly gaining traction among increasing ranks of receptive Indians.

The Newsweek article also cited how the Morning Consult gave PM Modi a domestic approval rating of nearly 78 percent, making him the most popular global leader in its survey, with more than double the support for US President Joe Biden.
