Fresh advisory from Indian Embassy in Tehran comes days after Iran and the US endorsed a peace agreement, with citizens asked to stay alert and register their details

India on Wednesday advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice, even as it acknowledged recent improvements in the regional security situation following the Iran-US peace agreement.

In a fresh advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran urged Indian nationals currently in Iran, as well as those planning essential travel, to remain cautious, stay updated through official channels and register their details with the mission at the earliest.

“The Embassy of India, Tehran, has been closely monitoring the prevailing security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the advisory said, adding that while there have been “recent positive developments” and an improvement in the overall situation, Indian citizens should continue to avoid all non-essential travel to the country.

The embassy said that those already in Iran or those travelling there for essential reasons should exercise caution, remain vigilant and strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities.

It also strongly advised all Indian nationals in Iran, and those arriving in the country, to register their particulars with the embassy in Tehran and regularly monitor the mission’s official website and social media platforms for updates and any further advisories.

The travel caution comes only days after Iran and the United States endorsed a peace agreement aimed at ending the three-month-long conflict in the region. Representatives of both sides recently met in Switzerland to work on a broader framework for de-escalation and a possible long-term settlement.

Reacting to the talks, US Vice President JD Vance said the discussions had laid the groundwork for a possible final agreement, though he acknowledged that the process was still incomplete.

“The final deal is the house. We set the foundation. We haven’t built the house, but we’ve laid a successful foundation to get to a good place for the American people,” Vance said.

Despite signs of easing tensions, India’s latest advisory suggests New Delhi remains cautious about the security environment in Iran and wants its citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until the situation stabilises further.
