In what can be called a rather shocking development in the Amarnath attack investigation, the Special Investigation Team leading the investigation has arrested a policeman in connection to the terror attack. Sources also told us that the SIT is currently questioning a PDP legislator in connection with the case.

Touseef Ahmed who’s a part of the J&K police’s security wing is being questioned because of his role in the situation. He had been picked up on Thursday. The SIT picked the cop after a telephone interception showed his involvement in the case. He’s alleged to have called a handler, sources say.

The SIT, was conducting an investigation as how exactly the terrorists got to know about the location of the bus, and it being at a location which was poorly protected, when they got a tip off about the involvement of State Police in the attack. The authorities are currently trying to determine as to who exactly supplied the details about the vehicle’s motion.

A bus where yatris traveled was attacked after which seven persons were murdered by the terrorists. The policeman who has been arrested is a resident of Chakoura area of Kashmir. “He is currently cooperating with us and is spilling the beans,” the Inspector General of Police, J&K Muneer Khan said.

Further, he said they were probing who exactly supported the terrorists apart from the policeman and the PDP legislator. The authorities have so far questioned 20 persons in connection with the case. While others continue to be questioned, some have been arrested.

Sources say that although it’s apparent that this attack was carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, it’s being examined if there was an insider job. A PDP legislator’s role is under the police’s scanner. Security forces continue to search for Abu Ismail, the Lashkar commander who masterminded it and carried out the assault.
