A 16-year-old girl was rescued in Hounslow, West London, after members of the Sikh community staged a large protest demanding police intervention in a grooming and sexual assault case. According to community representatives, the teenager had been held by a man in his late 30s and was allegedly sexually assaulted by multiple men linked to a grooming network.

Around 200 members of the Sikh community gathered outside the accused’s residence, chanting religious slogans and urging authorities to act. After hours of demonstrations, police took one suspect into custody and the girl was released. Videos of the protest, showing the accused being escorted away in a police van, have since gone viral on social media.

The Sikh Press Association reported that the accused had first befriended the girl when she was 13 and gradually groomed her over several years before persuading her to leave her home after turning 16. Community members raised concerns over the location of the residence, noting that it was close to numerous secondary schools with children frequently passing through the area.

Cases involving grooming gangs have been a longstanding concern in the UK, with multiple investigations highlighting patterns of child sexual exploitation targeting vulnerable minors. Previous inquiries have documented systemic failures in safeguarding and law enforcement responses. A landmark inquiry led by Professor Alexis Jay found that at least 1,400 children were abused in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, while a later report concluded that child sexual abuse remains widespread across England and Wales.

The issue has also drawn political attention. In recent years, calls for a full national inquiry into grooming gangs have resurfaced, with several public figures backing renewed investigations into historic and ongoing cases.
