Home Minister lays wreath in Srinagar
An uneasy calm prevailed in Pahalgam early Wednesday morning, even as security forces were combing the thickly forested area to hunt down the perpetrators responsible for killing 26 tourists and injuring 17 others on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu, in protest against the Pahalgam terror attack.
In the North Kashmir area of Uri sector, alert troops of the Indian Army on Wednesday neutralised two Pakistani terrorists while they were attempting to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
The security forces have recovered an IED, 2 AK Rifles and a pistol from these infiltrators.

The Pakistan army also violated the ceasefire agreement in the Tattapani area of Poonch.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of deceased tourists were brought to Srinagar on Wednesday, where authorities will hold a wreath-laying ceremony at the police control room before dispatching them to their native places.
“We have received 26 bodies which were brought to the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in the wee hours of Wednesday. The bodies will be moved to the police control room (PCR),” a senior official supervising the necessary arrangements said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who reached Srinagar on Tuesday evening, laid wreaths on the coffins of the victims at a ceremony at the PCR later on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday morning held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport upon his arrival from Saudi Arabia, as he took stock of the situation following the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was also part of the meeting, officials said.
Modi was briefed by the officials immediately upon his return amid the nationwide shock and outrage over the most gruesome attack targeting tourists in the Valley in a long period.
The Prime Minister has vowed that those behind the attack will not be spared and will be brought to justice.
