Dear Ro Khanna,
I completely agree with you. When an opposition leader (of sorts) gets incriminated by a court and is no more in office, that is the end of democracy. Whatever the person said, or did, should never have been challenged. To go and challenge that action is, in itself, a crime. I completely agree with you, Ro! No wonder you’re a leader, even if it’s for the (Un)Democratic Party! You’re absolutely spot on in your assessment. Now, would that also apply to the indictment passed against Donald Trump? Oh, wait, my bad, that applies ONLY to India, and Rahul Baba!! Plus, you’re absolutely right in thinking the two situations can’t be compared! APPLES AND ORANGES!!
Your statement, that this was not what your grandfather fought for, is a point to be noted. However, most people ask me this question, so I will ask it for them: your grandfather, Amarnath Vidyalankar, was born in pre-partition India, in a (per Wikipedia), lower-middle-class family (like most Indian families). He was a minister in the Indira Gandhi cabinet and was the permanent General Secretary of the AICC. At this current time, his net worth ranges between $1-$5 million (using today’s conversion rates, that’s between 80-400 million INR). Again, per Wikipedia! He must have been a really hardworking guy (with multiple jobs) to have earned this kind of money!! Movin’ on!!
He was, according to recorded history, a big proponent of socialism! Understandable since the Soviet Union’s influence on the members of the Indian National Khangress (I don’t know why autocorrect replaces the INC with INK) was immense. Socialism is all about equality!! No argument there!! But, if socialism was the way to go, why did the USSR fall? After all, they were the earliest proponents of socialism!!! In addition, whatever was Gorbachev thinking when he took an economic giant, THE FORMIDABLE USSR (way ahead of the USA in terms of money) at that time and turned it into these fragmented states that are constantly standing at the doors of the World Bank, The IMF, The White House, and other financial institutions asking for handouts!! I mean, they’ve been there approximately 23-24 times!! WAIT!! Sorry, that is Pakistan! My bad!! I know you are (or were) on the Pakistan-US Relations committee!! Not a bad place to be, considering you could have been put into the Indi-US Relations Committee! What a downer that would’ve been! I mean, meeting Imran Khan!! As opposed to meeting Modi!! No contest, whatsoever! Immi any day!!
But, coming back to democracy, and a lack of it, I completely agree with the US Senate that has spent its valuable time focusing on the CURRENT SITUATION in India and has rightly said, “it will continue to monitor this travesty of justice “. I mean, isn’t that what we, as citizens of the USA, need to do! Who really wants to focus on the rampant growth of unemployment within the USA and cause depression in an enthusiastic and COMPLETELY supportive American population!! The entire 300+ million people here are FOR focusing on India and don’t want ANYTHING done to the American situation! THERE’S NO WAY OF IMPROVING A PERFECT SITUATION!! That’s why it’s called perfect!! Duh!!
Ro, both you and the DNP are doing an awesome job! No wonder, people are totally disgruntled with the RNP and want the DNP in administration forever, and then some! Republican Party?? Who are they??? Yep, let’s use that as your election slogan!! I’m sure your friends, scratch that and make it OUR friends, CAIR, and the equally democratic and ALL-INCLUSIVE Equality Labs, would be completely bowled over with this slogan!!!
