Dr Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar has sought a public apology from Mamata Banerjee and other senior TMC leaders

Fresh legal trouble has surfaced for Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee after Dr Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, announced that he is suing the party supremo and several senior leaders over alleged defamatory remarks.

In a strongly worded undated letter addressed to Mamata Banerjee, Kalyan Banerjee, Sougata Roy, Mahua Moitra and Sonali Guha, Baidyanath denied claims that he had sought a Trinamool ticket to contest from the Barasat Assembly constituency.

Calling the allegations “completely false“, the psychiatrist by profession said he had never sought any such ticket and accused the leaders of spreading misinformation that damaged his reputation.

Baidyanath also specifically rejected remarks allegedly made by former TMC leader Sonali Guha claiming that he and his mother regularly consumed alcohol. He described those allegations as “completely untrue” and defamatory.

He said legal notices would be sent to all five leaders on Monday and that he had demanded a public apology and retraction of the statements made against him.

“I have requested a public apology and retraction of these statements,” Baidyanath said in the letter.

“Failing an appropriate response, I intend to pursue such legal remedies as may be available to me under law, including proceedings for defamation,” he added.

The development comes at a sensitive time for the Trinamool Congress, which is already facing political and legal challenges ahead of the next phase of electoral politics in West Bengal.

While the party leadership has not officially responded to Baidyanath’s announcement, the episode has triggered fresh discussion about internal tensions and public sparring among current and former TMC leaders.
