
Terming Tanzil Ahmad’s (48) brutal killing a planned assault, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in Lucknow, said the incident is being probed.
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]he shooting in Bijnor district took place when the officer, an assistant commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF) and on deputation together with the NIA as an inspector since 2010, was returning from a wedding together with his wife and kids. His kids were not harmed, although his wife Farzana received four bullet injuries and is in critical condition.
Rajnath Singh, talking on the sidelines of a function in Lucknow, said: “I have talked to the officers concerned. Our teams have gone there to probe the matter plus they are going to submit a thorough report very soon.”
The officer was laid to rest in Shaheen Bagh area of south Delhi with full state honors.
“He will be given all dues that’s given to someone killed in service,” Sanjeev Kumar of NIA told IANS.
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]A[/dropcap]n official statement issued by the NIA termed the death a “great loss”. “Tanzil Ahmed was an asset to the bureau. His killing is a great loss to the National Investigative Agency (NIA). We will not rest until we get to the bottom of this investigation,” the statement said.
He said borders have already been sealed, nearby places are being hunted and senior officials from Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have been place at work to track the assailants and probe the attack.
“Nothing can be ruled out now until and unless we get absolute concrete evidence. We have to work on all angles. We have to see it from all the sides and work out the case,” Daljit Chowdhary, Additional Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, said on Sunday.
The NIA termed Ahmad’s killing a “planned strike”.
“A planned strike occurred on him when he was fired upon and killed,” NIA spokesman Kumar said. “He (Tanzil) was assistant commandant with BSF and currently on deputation with the NIA.
The investigating agency is looking to figure out how he was tracked by his assailants.
“The patient has been brought in a critical condition. Our physicians are providing the very best medical treatment to heal the patient. As an issue of patient confidentiality we cannot comment anything further,” a statement from the Fortis Noida said about the condition of Tanzil Ahmad’s wife.
On being taken into a health facility in Moradabad Ahmad was pronounced dead. His body was later brought to Delhi.
Ahmad was part of the in house team of BSF, providing vigilance cover. He also held tenures at training centre at Hazaribagh, near Gwalior, and BSF Academy at Tekanpur as instructor.
