India accords the highest respect to all religions; MEA rebuts Gen Sec of OIC’s statement
In response to media queries regarding the recent statement by the General Secretariat of the OIC, the Official Spokesperson Shri Arindam Bagchi said: “We have seen the statement on India from the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Government of India categorically rejects OIC Secretariat’s unwarranted and narrow-minded comments.”
The Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions.
He added, “The offensive tweets and comments denigrating a religious personality were made by certain individuals. They do not, in any manner, reflect the views of the Government of India. Strong action has already been taken against these individuals by relevant bodies.”
“It is regrettable that OIC Secretariat has yet again chosen to make motivated, misleading, and mischievous comments. This only exposes its divisive agenda being pursued at the behest of vested interests,” he further added.
He said in a concluding statement, “We would urge the OIC Secretariat to stop pursuing its communal approach and show due respect to all faiths and religions.”
Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “Our response to media queries regarding the recent statement by General Secretariat of the OIC:”

As part of a three-nation tour Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has begun a four-day visit to Qatar with a high-level team. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Dr. Deepak Mittal, India’s Ambassador to the country, on Sunday and presented him with an official message expressing Qatar’s disappointment and absolute rejection and condemnation against Nupur Sharma, who had previously read out a paragraph from the Hadith on a TV debate.
However, Nupur Sharma did issue a public apology. She is also suspended from the BJP’s primary membership for 6 years.
