CRPF gives a reality check to Rahul Gandhi post-Congress’s ‘security breach’ accusation
The security agency CRPF has reported to Union Home Ministry that their protectee Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had made 113 security violations in the past three years. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also reported to the Ministry that Rahul Gandhi made security violations during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“Security arrangements made for the protectee work fine when the protectee himself adheres to the security guidelines laid down. However, it is pointed out that on several occasions violations of laid down guidelines on the part of Shri Rahul Gandhi have been observed and this fact has been communicated to him from time to time. For instance, since 2020, there have been 113 violations observed and duly communicated. It may further be mentioned that during the Delhi leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra, the protectee has violated security guidelines and CRPF will be taking up this matter separately,” said the CRPF report to Union Home Ministry.
In the last few days, Congress was making accusations of serious security lapses in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. “The security arrangements have been fully made for Mr. Rahul Gandhi as per the guidelines. It may be pointed out that during visits of the protectee the required security arrangements are made by the CRPF in coordination with State police/ security agencies as per guidelines. Advisories based on threat assessment have been issued by the MHA to all stakeholders concerned including the State govt. Advance Security Liaison (ASL) is also undertaken for every visit,” said the CRPF report.
Sonia Gandhi’s family’s protection is now handled by CRPF for the past three years after the Central government stopped the elite SPG (Special Protection Group) security cover. This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi is inviting criticism for serious violations and giving headaches to security agencies. In 2017, then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh informed Parliament about the peculiar habits of Rahul Gandhi, creating headaches for security agencies. Rajnath Singh said that security agencies are worried about Rahul Gandhi’s speedy driving of motorcycles late at night in Delhi and his habit of not giving details of foreign trips and violations of many security protocols. The Home Minister in 2017 said Rahul Gandhi committed more than 100 violations and not adhering to security protocols.[1]
