Israel targets Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut
The Israeli military conducted a significant strike on the headquarters of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in the southern suburbs of Beirut, reportedly targeting the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. This operation highlights Israel’s commitment to confronting what it calls a “terrorist organization” that has long threatened its security.
The strikes, which leveled six buildings in the Dahiyeh suburb—known as a Hezbollah stronghold—were part of Israel’s ongoing campaign against the group’s persistent aggression. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the precision strike, with military spokesman Daniel Hagari emphasizing the targeting of Hezbollah’s central command. The sheer scale of the explosions sent shockwaves throughout Beirut, illustrating the extensive damage and the seriousness of Israel’s military response.
The Israeli military has said it had killed Hezbollah commanders during the air strikes in Lebanon, officials said.
“The IAF (Israeli Air Force) struck and eliminated the terrorist Muhammad Ali Ismail, the commander of Hezbollah’s missile unit in southern Lebanon, and his deputy, the terrorist Hussein Ahmad Ismail,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in the early hours of Saturday.
“Additional Hezbollah commanders and operatives were eliminated alongside them,” the IDF added.
The IDF said that Muhammad Ali Ismail was responsible for directing attacks against Israel, including the launch of a surface-to-air missile on Wednesday. The IDF said in a statement that Ismail was “responsible for many acts of terrorism… including rocket launches towards the territory of the State of Israel and the launch of a surface-to-surface missile towards the centre of the country last Wednesday”.
The Israeli military said it also killed Ibrahim Muhammad Kabisi and “other senior officials in Hezbollah’s missile and rocket array“.
In the wake of this assault, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his government’s resolve to eliminate the threat posed by Hezbollah. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, he made it clear that as long as Hezbollah pursues a path of war, Israel has no choice but to act decisively. His remarks come as Hezbollah continues to engage in acts of aggression that endanger both Israeli and Lebanese civilians.
This latest strike follows a week of intensified airstrikes across southern Lebanon, during which Israel has systematically targeted Hezbollah positions. The conflict has resulted in substantial casualties, with reports of over 700 deaths and widespread displacement among civilians. The magnitude of this violence underscores the dire situation in the region and the urgent need for a reassessment of Hezbollah’s role in perpetuating instability and terror.
Hezbollah’s actions and its continued militarization not only threaten Israel but also jeopardize the safety and security of Lebanese citizens. As the situation escalates, the international community must recognize Hezbollah for what it truly represents: a militant group that prioritizes violence over peace and stability in the region.
