On Sunday morning Twitter caught fire on an unexpected tweet from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She blasted the gossip column writer Coomi Kapoor. Coomi’s gossip item in the Indian Express gave an impression that Sushma Swaraj is out of the decision making loop after the Uri-attack. And that she is not active in Twitter due to this sidelining in Modi Government.
Sushma Swaraj’s outburst in Twitter shows that she lost her cool on this story.
Did Coomi forget the External Affairs Minister’s speech after Uri attacks? Coomi is alleged to have been a habitual mischief monger for decades and taking Supari from a senior Cabinet Minister.
Coomi’s brother-in-law Subramanian Swamy, who is loggerheads with her for a long time wasted no time in expressing support for Swaraj. He tweeted that Coomi is acting on behalf of a Cabinet Minister…
Who is this Cabinet Minister feeding Coomi with lies and gossip? Everyone in Delhi knows that Coomi Kapoor and her husband veteran journalists Virendra Kapoor are close friends of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley from the 90s. But was it Jaitley who planted this story? Only Coomi can answer.
Late Vinod Mehta had noted in Editor Unplugged, “Coomi Kapoor’s whispers column in the Indian Express (if you ignore the plugs for Arun Jaitley) are essential reading for any understanding of what is going on in Delhi beyond the headlines.”
Reacting to Sushma Swaraj’s outburst, Editor Prabhu Chawla also tweeted that this is a hit job from within, cautioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, during the Lalit Modi controversy also Sushma Swaraj lost temper with Navika Kumar of Times Now for “malicious campaign”. Sushma in her Tweet also mentioned Navika’s associations with controversial lobbyist Niira Radia. Like Coomi Kapoor, Navika Kumar is also known for her proximity with Arun Jaitley.
The question is will Prime Minister gag the concerned Cabinet Minister from planting stories against colleagues? Or is there a bigger gift in the pipeline?
