Islamabad has yet to comment on the claims made by Taliban administration

Pakistan’s military carried out overnight airstrikes inside Afghanistan that killed at least 13 people, including 11 children, according to the Taliban administration.

Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the strikes targeted civilian areas in the eastern provinces of Khost, Kunar and Paktika near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The victims were reportedly asleep when the attacks occurred, leaving them little opportunity to escape.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Mujahid accused Pakistan of violating Afghanistan’s airspace and targeting residential homes.

“Last night, the Pakistani military once again violated Afghanistan’s airspace and bombed civilian homes in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika,” he said.

Officials in Afghanistan’s Khost province said a house in the Spera district was struck, resulting in nine deaths and ten injuries. In neighbouring Paktika province, local residents reported that another strike hit a home in the Barmal district, killing three civilians, including children.

Pakistan did not immediately acknowledge the strikes. However, Islamabad has consistently maintained that operations conducted across the border are aimed at militant groups responsible for attacks inside Pakistani territory.

The latest allegations mark one of the deadliest incidents along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in recent weeks. The strikes come after a period of relative calm following intense clashes earlier this year that saw heavy fighting along the frontier and Pakistani airstrikes targeting several Afghan cities, including Kabul and Kandahar.

The incident is likely to further strain relations between the Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as both sides continue to trade accusations over cross-border security threats and militant activity.
