Trump 2.0: Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy get important role
US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that tech mogul Elon Musk will head a newly created “Department of Government Efficiency,” a move that aligns with his campaign promise to streamline the federal government.
Musk will take on this pivotal role alongside Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who is also set to play a key part in the initiative.
In a statement, Trump praised the two men, saying, “Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies—essential to the ‘Save America‘ movement.” He added that the duo would focus on enhancing government efficiency while improving the lives of all Americans.
Trump emphasized that Musk and Ramaswamy would be tasked with addressing the “massive waste and fraud” within the federal system, a key theme of his election campaign. One of the proposals Trump highlighted during his run for office was the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, which aimed to reduce the size and cost of the federal government.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has long been a vocal supporter of Trump. He played a significant role in the Republican’s successful election bid, not only through financial contributions—donating over $100 million to Trump’s re-election campaign—but also by actively campaigning. Musk used his platform, X (formerly Twitter), to rally support for Trump, amplifying his messages to millions of followers.
In his victory speech last week, Trump lauded Musk as an “amazing and super genius guy,” noting his involvement in the campaign, particularly in Pennsylvania. “We have a new star, a star is born: Elon. He’s an amazing guy. We were sitting together tonight. You know, he spent two weeks in Philadelphia, in different parts of Pennsylvania, campaigning,” Trump told his supporters.
The relationship between Trump and Musk has been a central part of the President-elect’s campaign narrative. Musk’s support for Trump was also evident on November 9, when he joined a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Trump’s request. According to reports, Zelensky thanked Musk for providing Starlink satellite services to Ukraine, though the main conversation was between Trump and the Ukrainian leader, as per AFP sources.
As President-elect Trump prepares to take office, the appointment of Musk and Ramaswamy to lead this new government efficiency initiative signals the administration’s intention to focus on reducing government waste and streamlining bureaucracy, themes that have resonated with Trump’s supporters throughout his campaign.
