The DMK veteran dared Aadhav Arjuna to resign and contest from Tiruchendur
Senior DMK leader and Tiruchendur MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and the ruling TVK-led alliance, predicting that the government would collapse within six months and asserting that DMK president MK Stalin would soon return to power.
Speaking at a party event in southern Tamil Nadu, the veteran DMK leader also threw an open political challenge to TVK MLA Aadhav Arjuna, daring him to resign from the Villivakkam constituency and contest against him in Tiruchendur.
“Only four more months this government will survive. There is one person called Aadhav Arjuna. If you have guts, resign your MLA position, I will also do it. Let’s face off in Tiruchendur. This is our town. We will defeat anyone,” Radhakrishnan declared.
DMK leader predicts fall of Vijay government
Radhakrishnan’s remarks come amid intensifying tensions between the opposition DMK and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which swept to power in the April Assembly elections under actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay.
The Tiruchendur MLA, who has held the constituency for over two decades, expressed confidence that the current government would not complete even its first year in office.
He also strongly defended former Chief Minister MK Stalin, who suffered a shock defeat in his traditional Kolathur stronghold during the election wave that propelled Vijay to power.
“We want our ‘thalaivar‘ (leader) MK Stalin to contest in Trichy. Stalin changed Kolathur as Singapore,” Radhakrishnan said.
Taking a swipe at the electorate that voted against the DMK, he claimed the setback was temporary and insisted Stalin would soon reclaim the Chief Minister’s post.
“’Thalaivar’ is the next chief minister. After four or six months our leader will become chief minister,” he added.
TVK’s historic rise reshaped Tamil Nadu politics
Vijay’s victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections marked one of the biggest political upheavals in the state in decades. The TVK emerged as the single largest force with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, ending the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
The party later secured outside support from the Congress, Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, helping Vijay comfortably cross the majority mark and form the government.
The TVK chief was subsequently sworn in as Chief Minister and survived a trust vote with strong backing inside the Assembly.
Since assuming office, however, the Vijay-led government has faced relentless criticism from the DMK over governance issues, appointments and administrative decisions. The ruling alliance has repeatedly dismissed opposition claims that the government is unstable.
No response yet from TVK
Neither Chief Minister Vijay nor senior TVK leaders, including Aadhav Arjuna, have officially responded to Anitha Radhakrishnan’s provocative remarks so far.
The comments are expected to further escalate the already heated political confrontation between the DMK and the ruling TVK government ahead of local body elections and future political battles in the state.
