Massive haul of spurious drugs, raw materials and machinery seized; kingpin accused of processing smuggled tramadol worth ₹5 crore
The Delhi Police has busted a fake medicine manufacturing unit in Bihar’s Gaya, arresting a key accused linked to an interstate drug syndicate. With the latest arrest, the total number of accused apprehended in the racket has risen to nine, officials said on Friday.
The main accused, identified as Arun (59), was allegedly running an illegal drug manufacturing unit without qualified chemists. Police said he was involved in large-scale production and distribution of counterfeit medicines across states.
During the raid, officials recovered a substantial quantity of fake drugs, raw materials and heavy machinery used for manufacturing tablets.
Massive Seizure
Among the items seized were:
- 1.19 lakh spurious Zinc tablets
- Over 42,000 fake Azithromycin tablets
- 27 kg of paracetamol powder
- 444 fake ampoules of Dilona Aqua
- Tablet manufacturing equipment
Police further revealed that Arun had processed more than 5 kg of smuggled tramadol powder — valued at over ₹5 crore in the international market — into tablets. These were allegedly sold through bogus medical fronts at inflated prices.
According to investigators, the tablets were marketed as painkillers and were also reportedly used as substitutes for heroin in illegal drug markets.
Interstate Network Under Scanner
Arun was traced following the interrogation of another accused, Tanishq, who was arrested last week. Officials said the operation is part of a broader crackdown that recently led to the discovery of a similar fake factory in Patna.
With nine members of the cartel now in custody, police are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the interstate racket.
Further investigation is underway.
