Protest follows failure of Constitution amendment bill in Lok Sabha
At least two BJP MPs, including Bansuri Swaraj and Union Minister Raksha Khadse, were detained by Delhi Police during a protest march towards the residence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
The protest took place a day after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. Several BJP leaders and supporters gathered and marched towards Gandhi’s residence, raising slogans and carrying placards.
Among those who participated in the protest were MPs Hema Malini, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Manju Sharma, and others, along with party workers.
BJP intensifies attack on Opposition
The BJP escalated its criticism of the Congress and other Opposition parties both on the ground and online.
In a post on X, the party’s Delhi unit shared a poster calling opponents “Dhokebaaz (traitor)“, while accusing them of blocking the women’s reservation bill.
The post said,
“Half of the country’s population will never forgive these villains who stopped the 33 per cent reservation for women power,”
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also joined the protest alongside party leaders.
Slogans and participation by leaders
Protesters held black flags and placards, accusing the Opposition of disrespecting “nari shakti”.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined the demonstration and raised slogans.
She said,
“Phool nahi chingari hai, hum Bharat ki naari hai; Mahilaon ka ye apman nahi sahega hindustan (We are not flowers, we are sparks; we are the women of India; India will not tolerate this insult to women),”
Other leaders who took part in the protest included councillor Yogita Singh and BJP vice-president Lata Gupta.
Political reactions
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also weighed in, highlighting remarks by Edappadi K Palaniswami.
She referred to his statement that
“Tamil Nadu has lost the opportunity to increase their political power and its rightful share of 20 more MP seats.”
