‘Cultural detox’ remark targets Trump’s comments
Iran has taken a dig at US President Donald Trump following the controversy over his sharing of a post that described India and China in derogatory terms.
In a post on X, the Iran Consulate General Mumbai shared a video showcasing Maharashtra’s cultural and natural diversity, suggesting that a visit to India could serve as a “cultural detox” for Trump.
“Maybe someone should book a one-way cultural detox for Mr Trump, it might just reduce the random bakwaas,” the consulate wrote.
“Kabhi India aa ke dekho, phir bolna,” it added.

Row triggered by controversial repost
The controversy began after Trump reposted content by US radio host Michael Savage, who referred to India, China, and other countries as “hell-holes” while arguing for changes to America’s birthright citizenship laws.
In the remarks, Savage made claims about immigrants from these countries seeking US citizenship through birthright provisions, drawing criticism for being offensive and racially charged.

India on Thursday strongly criticised remarks made in a social media post amplified by US President Donald Trump, calling them “uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste.”

“We have seen the comments… The remarks are obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
He added that such views “certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship,” which is built on mutual respect and shared interests.Backlash from community groups
The Hindu American Foundation condemned the remarks, calling them “hateful” and warning they could fuel racism and xenophobia.
“We are deeply disturbed… endorsing such rants will further stoke hatred and endanger our communities,” the group said, urging Trump to reconsider and delete the post.
