South Delhi hotel fire claims 21 lives, dozens rescued and hospitalised
At least 21 people lost their lives after a devastating fire broke out at a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Tuesday morning, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
According to Delhi Police, information about the fire at Flourish Stay B&B was received at around 8:48 am. Emergency response teams, including firefighters and police personnel, immediately launched rescue, evacuation and relief operations.
The blaze was eventually brought under control with the assistance of eight fire tenders. More than 40 people were rescued from the building and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities said search and rescue operations were continuing to ensure no one remained trapped inside.
Patients and attendants among victims
Sources said many of those staying at the hotel were foreign nationals who had travelled to India for medical treatment. The guest house is located in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar, close to Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, making it a preferred accommodation option for patients and their attendants.
Following the fire, 39 injured individuals were taken to the Emergency Department of Max Hospital. According to the hospital, the patients suffered from smoke inhalation, minor burns and injuries sustained during evacuation attempts.
In a statement, Max Hospital said that 18 people were brought dead, while 15 patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Of those in ICU, eight remain on ventilator support and are in critical condition.
Five patients with minor injuries were treated and discharged after receiving primary medical care, while one severely burned patient was referred to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced treatment.
The victims reportedly include both Indian and foreign nationals.
