Embassy urges Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran and leave the country amid growing regional tensions
India on Monday issued a fresh advisory for its citizens in Iran as tensions between Israel and Iran escalated following a new round of missile attacks and military strikes across the region.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran urged Indian nationals to avoid travelling to Iran and advised those currently in the country to leave at the earliest through available transport options.
The advisory comes amid a rapidly deteriorating security situation in West Asia, where renewed military exchanges between Israel and Iran have heightened concerns over regional stability and the safety of foreign nationals.
“In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian Nationals to avoid any travel to Iran. Indian Nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport,” the embassy said in a statement.
Fresh escalation in the region
The latest advisory follows a significant escalation in hostilities after Iran launched a major missile attack on Israel, marking one of the largest exchanges since tensions intensified earlier this year.
According to the Israeli military, multiple missile barrages were intercepted by its air defence systems. Air raid sirens were activated in several areas as authorities responded to the attack.
The missile launches came after Israeli strikes on Beirut, which reportedly left two people dead and around 20 others injured.
Israel vows response
Israeli officials described the Iranian missile attack as a serious escalation and signalled that a response could follow.
Israeli authorities stated that Iran had committed a “grave mistake” and warned of consequences, raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.
Meanwhile, Iran announced the closure of its airspace amid concerns over possible retaliatory action.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said any further attacks would invite a wider response targeting both Israeli and American interests across the region.
Trump urges restraint
Amid concerns of a wider conflict, US President Donald Trump called for restraint and urged Israel not to retaliate immediately.
Speaking to Axios, Trump said he planned to speak directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate,” Trump said.
“Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don’t need another one,” he added.
Concerns over regional stability
The renewed military exchanges have complicated ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East and reviving negotiations involving regional stakeholders.
Analysts warn that any further escalation could have significant implications for regional security, global energy markets and international travel, prompting governments to closely monitor developments and issue advisories for their citizens.
