Two soldiers were seriously injured during a training exercise near the LoC in Poonch and later airlifted to Udhampur for specialised treatment
Two Indian Army personnel were seriously injured on Friday after a grenade accidentally exploded during a training exercise near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.
The incident occurred around 12.30 pm near an Army forward post in the Malti sector close to the LoC. Army personnel were conducting routine training and weapon-handling drills when the grenade accidentally detonated.
The blast left two soldiers with serious injuries. They were immediately shifted to the 425 Field Hospital in Poonch, where they received initial medical treatment.
Given the severity of their condition, the Army later arranged an air evacuation and moved both personnel to the Northern Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialised care.
The injured soldiers have been identified as Lance Naik Ravinder Bhera of the Bihar Battalion and Agniveer Shakti Prasad.
The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the accidental explosion.
