Iran claimed missile and drone strikes on US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, escalating tensions in West Asia

Tensions in West Asia escalated sharply on Sunday after air raid sirens sounded across Bahrain and Iran claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes targeting US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait, following fresh American attacks on Iranian targets.

The latest developments come a day after the United States carried out another round of military strikes on Iran at the direction of President Donald Trump, raising fears that the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran could collapse.

Sirens heard in Bahrain after Iranian claim

Residents in Bahrain were urged to seek shelter after warning sirens were activated across parts of the country amid reports of incoming threats.

Shortly afterwards, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its naval and aerospace forces had launched a joint missile and drone operation targeting US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait.

According to the IRGC, the operation was carried out in response to recent US strikes on Iranian territory.

“Violating the ceasefire is contrary to Clause 1 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and will result in the complete halt of all diplomatic processes,” the Guards said in a statement.

    Iran warns of ‘crushing response’

Iranian military spokesperson Ibrahim al-Fiqar, representing the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned that any further military action against Iran would receive a forceful response.

“Any new aggression, regardless of its pretext or the scale of its objectives, will be met with a crushing response. Violating the ceasefire constitutes a breach of Article 1 of the Islamabad Understanding and will lead to a complete halt of all tracks.”

He also stated that Iran would regulate maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and warned that vessels deemed hostile would face stricter action.

IRGC claims attacks on US military facilities

In a separate statement, the Revolutionary Guards claimed they had struck multiple US military installations, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet naval headquarters in Port Salman, Bahrain.

The IRGC alleged that eight key US military facilities had been destroyed during the operation.

“Any enemy aggression, whatever the pretext, even against insignificant targets… will have a crushing response,” the statement said, adding that continued US military action would bring an end to diplomatic efforts.

The Guards also warned that American military bases in the region “will experience hell in the coming days.”

    Fresh US-Iran confrontation

The latest exchange follows fresh US airstrikes on Iranian military infrastructure after Washington accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire by attacking a commercial oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump warned that further Iranian actions could invite a much larger US military response, while negotiations between the two countries on a long-term peace agreement remain under strain.

The renewed military exchanges have heightened concerns about the stability of the Gulf region and the future of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending months of conflict.
