The woman who exposed alleged child abuse at a Bengaluru daycare has been arrested for allegedly circulating sensitive videos

The whistleblower who exposed the alleged abuse of children at a daycare centre inside Bengaluru’s Capgemini technology park has been arrested for allegedly circulating videos showing the incidents, police said.

According to officials, action was taken against the woman for allegedly leaking sensitive footage recorded inside the daycare. Police maintained that while the videos helped bring the alleged abuse to light, their circulation violated legal provisions relating to sensitive material.

The arrest comes a day after the whistleblower was questioned by police. Her family members and child rights activists had earlier expressed concern over the prolonged questioning and alleged lack of clarity regarding the purpose of her detention.

The videos, which went viral earlier this week, allegedly showed caregivers mistreating children as young as two years old. In one clip, toddlers were seen inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine while staff sprayed water on them. Another video purportedly showed children being locked inside bathrooms.

The footage triggered widespread outrage, leading to a police investigation and a complaint before the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Police have so far arrested two daycare employees, Vijayalakshmi and Manjula, after finding what they described as substantial evidence against them. Officials said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

Authorities said around 50 to 60 children were enrolled at the daycare, with 15 to 20 attending regularly. A district child protection officer told NDTV that preliminary findings indicate the abuse may have been systematic.

Meanwhile, Capgemini said it is fully cooperating with the investigation and has temporarily shut down the on-campus daycare facility.

In a statement, the company said the safety and well-being of its employees and their families remain its highest priority and that it is assisting authorities in establishing the facts.
