Indian Embassy in Kyiv asks citizens to consider leaving Ukraine temporarily
Amid rising tensions in the Ukraine and speculations of a Russian invasion, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv has asked Indian nationals to leave Ukraine temporarily.
The advisory was issued by the embassy particularly for students and other nationals who are staying in the country for non-essential purposes.
There are around 18,000 Indian students studying in Ukrainian medical institutions. However, many of them are in India due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The advisory of the Indian embassy on Tuesday said, “In view of the uncertainties of the current situation in Ukraine, Indian nationals in Ukraine, particularly students whose stay is not essential, may consider leaving temporarily.”
The advisory says, “Indian nationals are requested to keep the Embassy informed about the status of their presence in Ukraine to enable the Embassy to reach out to them where required.”
It added, “The Embassy continues to function normally to provide all services to Indian nationals in Ukraine.”
This is the first advisory issued by the Indian embassy in Kyiv which has urged its nationals to leave the country amid rifts between Russia and Ukraine.
As per reports, Russia has concentrated an estimated 100,000 troops with tanks and other heavy weapons near Ukraine in what the West fears could be a prelude to an invasion.
The US and several EU countries have already asked their nationals to leave Ukraine and scaled-down their diplomatic missions. The US has already claimed that Russia is ready to invade Ukraine at any time.
