PM Modi makes big announcement on J&K Assembly elections and statehood

Much-awaited Assembly polls are expected soon in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The statement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself while addressing an election rally in support of party candidates, Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma, in Udhampur on Friday. Modi assured the nation that Jammu and Kashmir will also get the status of statehood.

Addressing a gathering of party supporters, the Prime Minister said, “Modi thinks far ahead. So what has happened so far is just the trailer. I have to get busy creating a new and wonderful picture of the new Jammu and Kashmir. The time is not far when Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. J&K will get the status of statehood. You will be able to share your dreams with your MLA and your ministers”.

Modi’s statement invited a sharp reaction from the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Reacting to the statement Omar said conducting an election in the region is now a compulsion of the Modi government following the Apex court’s order. It is the verdict of the Supreme Court. It would have been a favor for us if the PM had conducted elections before the verdict of SC. As far as statehood is concerned he could not explain to us till now why Article 370 was removed, he said.

Elections are held without the threat of terrorism, strikes, stone pelting, and cross-border firing.

Modi assured that the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir would be conducted without the looming threat of terrorism, strikes, stone pelting, and cross-border firing.

Trust me. I will address the issues that have plagued Jammu and Kashmir for the past 60 years. Over the last decade, I have fulfilled my promises as Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a complete transformation, he added.

Seeking majority votes in favour of the sitting Parliamentarians, Modi said “This election is not just to elect MPs but this is an election to form a strong government in the country. When the government is strong, it completes the work by challenging the challenges…”

Congress and its allies teasing people of India: Modi

On the occasion, Modi also targeted the Congress party for deliberately teasing the people of India. “You all must have seen how much Congress dislikes ‘Ram Mandir’. They call ‘Ram Mandir’ Modi’s election issue. It has never been and will never become an election topic. Ram Mandir’s struggle is 500 years old when there used to be no elections.”

Modi said, “The people of Congress and I.N.D.I. Alliance does not care about the sentiments of the majority of the people of the country. They enjoy playing with the sentiments of the people. Without naming anyone Modi said, “A person who has been sentenced by the court and who is on bail, they visit the house of such a criminal and enjoy cooking mutton in the month of Sawan. They make videos to mock people, echoing the Mughal era mentality…They aim to provoke citizens and secure their vote bank… now they’ll rain bullets on me, abuse me…But it’s my responsibility… to show them the right aspect to the country…”

Beware of dynastic rulers in J&K: Modi

Warning the people of Jammu and Kashmir against falling into the trap of dynastic parties, Modi said Congress, National Conference, PDP, and all other parties want to take Jammu and Kashmir back to those old days. No one has caused as much damage to Jammu and Kashmir as these family-run parties have done. Here political party means… of the family, by the family and for the family…”

“For the sake of power, they had built a wall of 370 in Jammu and Kashmir…Due to your blessings, Modi demolished the wall of Article 370. I have also buried the debris of that wall in the ground. I challenge any political party in India, especially Congress, to announce that they will bring back Article 370. This country won’t even look at them.”

Modi reminded the electorate of Jammu and Kashmir, “In 1992, I remember I received a grand welcome here during ‘Ekta Yatra’. Our mission, at that time, was to hoist ‘Tiranga’ at Kashmir’s Lal Chowk. In 2014, I gave you all a guarantee to provide relief to everyone from what you have faced. Modi fulfilled that guarantee. This is the first time when terrorism, separatism, stone pelting, cross-border firing are not the issues of elections.”

He said, “Modi ki guarantee yani guarantee pura hone ki guarantee. You remember how the weak governments of Congress kept the Shahpurkandi Dam stalled for decades. The fields of the farmers of Jammu were dry and the villages were in darkness, but our water of Ravi was going to Pakistan. Modi had given a guarantee to the farmers and has fulfilled it also.”

Modi said the situation has changed now in Jammu and Kashmir. ‘Vikas bhi ho raha hai, vishvaas bhi badh raha hai’.
