District Court Digitization Hubs aim to reduce paper works

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Monday virtually inaugurated 10 District Court Digitization Hubs (DCDH) in Odisha, and said that modernization of the judiciary is the need of the hour. District Court Digitization Hubs aim at reducing paper works.

With Monday’s inauguration, a total of 15 DCDHs have now become functional in the state, with each catering to a neighboring district, thus covering all 30 district courts. DCDHs were in Angul, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Sonepur.

The CJI emphasized digitization as the most important step towards modernization of the judiciary, especially the trial courts which are the backbone. He highlighted the benefits of digitization, such as easier access to records by authorized persons, organized information keeping, reduction of time to search documents, security of the documents and records, etc.

The CJI also stressed that digitization must be accompanied by pushing e-filing otherwise it would be difficult to go on digitizing everything which is filed in physical form in long run.

Appreciating the information and communication technology (ICT) measures adopted by the Orissa High Court under the leadership of its Chief Justice S Muralidhar, he said, “Digitization should be accompanied by a push for e-filing of cases.” He also said that the Orissa High Court, with its digitization initiatives, is now a “role model” for all other high courts of the country.

Digitization is the only solution to the humongous problem of space crunch. Digitization of records has been taken up by the High Court of Orissa, both in the High Court and the District Courts.

“Very soon, the Orissa High Court would be mentoring the entire judiciary of the nation in the field of digitization,” he added.

  1. Hope CJI Chandrachud is aware that written records remain while Digitilised records can disappear in cyber space and servers forever in many ways.

This applies to the threatened implementation of Digital currency by RBI. It’s your wealth in someone else’s hands. There is no fail safe protection
