The Delhi Police on Saturday granted permission to the social media platform ‘Cockroach Janta Party‘ (CJP) to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

The demonstration was organised to demand accountability over the NEET controversy and seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in Delhi from the United States on Friday to lead the protest. According to reports, Delhi Police officials met him upon arrival at the airport and subsequently allowed the event to proceed at Jantar Mantar.

Earlier, Dipke had urged supporters to gather at the Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission for the protest. However, after approval was granted, he appealed to participants to head directly to Jantar Mantar.

Authorities made extensive security arrangements in view of the gathering. Around 2,000 police personnel were deployed in and around the protest venue and adjoining areas of Central Delhi.

A pamphlet distributed at the site stated that the protest was aimed at demanding accountability, seeking justice and calling for the resignation of the education minister.

The organisers also claimed that an online petition seeking Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation had garnered more than eight lakh signatures.

The Cockroach Janta Party was launched by Abhijeet Dipke on May 16 following controversy surrounding remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant referencing “parasites” and “cockroaches“. The satirical digital platform quickly gained significant traction online and attracted a large following across social media platforms.

  1. Retrograde step. For other genuine valid celebrations, permissions are denied but for anti-India protests or strikes permissions are given

  2. So why do we see protesters waving the photo of the New Mahatma, India’s prathamadharmavirodhI? Was he opposed to the idea of a common test as well?
