At the start of this discussion, I had mentioned that Shri Morarji Desai was a Deputy Prime Minister and the Finance Minister under Jawaharlal Nehru. I was wrong on one count and right on another – Morarji Desai was the Finance Minister during the period 13 March 1958 – 29 August 1963. He became a Deputy PM under Indira Gandhi during the period 13 March 1967 – 16 July 1969.
It is worth mentioning here that Morarji Desai was a disciple of Sardar Patel and Sardar Patel deputed him to conduct meetings of farmers in Kaira district which finally led to the establishment of the Amul Cooperative movement.
