Centre will meet leaders from across the political spectrum ahead of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, with contentious national issues expected to dominate the legislative agenda
The Centre has called an all-party meeting on July 19, a day before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, in an effort to build consensus and ensure the smooth functioning of both Houses. The meeting, chaired by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, comes amid expectations of a stormy session, with the Opposition preparing to corner the government on a host of political, economic and national security issues.
The Monsoon Session is scheduled to begin on July 20, with the government expected to table several key Bills while seeking cooperation from all political parties for productive proceedings.
Government reaches out before crucial session
The all-party meeting will begin at 11 am on July 19, following the established practice of consulting political parties before every Parliament session. The Centre is expected to outline its legislative agenda and seek support for the smooth conduct of business in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is likely to interact with leaders across party lines to address concerns before the session gets underway.
Opposition prepares to raise key issues
The Monsoon Session is expected to witness heated debates as Opposition parties plan to press the government on several contentious issues.
Among the matters likely to dominate proceedings are economic concerns, internal security, foreign policy developments, unemployment, inflation, electoral reforms and other issues of public importance. The Opposition is also expected to demand detailed discussions on recent developments that have generated political debate.
Government eyes legislative agenda
Apart from political exchanges, the Centre is expected to push ahead with its legislative business during the session. Several Bills are likely to be introduced or taken up for discussion as the government attempts to balance legislative priorities with anticipated disruptions in Parliament.
High-voltage session on the cards
With both the government and the Opposition preparing for an intense political battle, the Monsoon Session is expected to be one of the most closely watched parliamentary sessions of the year.
The outcome of the all-party meeting could set the tone for the weeks ahead, determining whether Parliament witnesses constructive debate or repeated confrontations over contentious national issues.
