Iran summons British charge d’affaires over recent sanctions

Iran‘s Foreign Ministry summoned the British charge d’affaires on Tuesday in response to the United Kingdom’s recent sanctions targeting three Iranian individuals and one entity. This diplomatic action followed London’s announcement that it had imposed sanctions on Hamid Fazeli, Behnam Shahriari, Abdolfatah Ahvazian, and Unit 700 of the Quds Force, part of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The sanctions, announced by the UK on Monday, were reportedly imposed due to allegations that these individuals and the entity were involved in activities aimed at destabilizing various regions, including Israel, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, and Britain.

During the meeting, Majid Nili Ahmadabadi, the director for Western European nations at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, condemned the sanctions as inconsistent with the British government’s professed policies of engagement and cooperation. Ahmadabadi also criticized the UK for its support of Israeli actions against Palestinians and its backing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that these positions contribute to regional instability.

In response, the UK charge d’affaires assured that Iran’s concerns would be communicated to the British government.
