In this wide-ranging chat with Mohandas TG, we talk about the history of media in Kerala and how an Australian Company Effective Measure (EM) has tools that monitor and sell their data to their “clients”. EM is collecting private information of the users from India in a big way and publications like Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi are partnered with them in stealing personal data without the user being aware of it.

Effective Measure is an online Audience Measurement tool, headquartered in Australia, with offices in Dubai, London, New York, Melbourne, Sydney, and Singapore. Their core data comes from surveys and Javascript-based tags placed on partnered websites (like Manorama online) and through their mobile apps (like Mathrubhumi News). These Mobile Apps and Tags (operated via a browser plugin which is installed by their partners) allows for a deep, accurate measure of users online behavior. They use their tracking tag to discover the most popular sites and engagement levels of the target audience. Rich demographic (age, income, nationality, gender etc.) behavioral (health and fitness, travel, fashion etc) and intent (property, technology, auto etc ) data will be collected using their tracking mechanism.
