Kanhaiya Kumar targets Fadnavis’s wife over her social media presence

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has once again stirred controversy with his scathing remarks aimed at Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and his wife, Amruta Fadnavis, during a rally in Nagpur South West Assembly constituency.

The politically charged address, aimed at rallying support for Congress candidate Praful Gudhe against Fadnavis, was marked by a series of disrespectful and inflammatory comments that have drawn sharp criticism.

In a bid to attack Fadnavis’s recent comments on “religious war,” Kumar launched into a personal tirade, saying, “While we are trying to save religion, your wife will be busy making Instagram reels.” The remark, which may have elicited cheers from his supporters, was widely seen as an attempt to drag a public figure’s personal life into a political discourse, something that detracts from substantive debate and only adds to the toxic political environment.

Kumar’s comments were not limited to Fadnavis and his wife. He also targeted Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, calling him a “guard for dishonest Gujarati leaders” rather than a leader of Maharashtra. The personal nature of Kumar’s attacks has raised questions about his willingness to engage in constructive political dialogue.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s attempts to malign Fadnavis and his family, especially targeting his wife over her social media presence, are nothing more than cheap political stunts aimed at scoring points by resorting to personal insults.

By dragging individuals and their families into political fights, Kumar risks normalizing a culture of personal attacks that undermines the dignity of public office.

Critics have pointed out that Kumar’s comments are symptomatic of a larger trend where leaders, unable to challenge their opponents on substantive issues, resort to personal attacks and baseless allegations.
