Kerala reports first case of Monkeypox
Kerala has reported its first confirmed case of MPox (Monkeypox), as announced by State Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday evening. This marks the second case of MPox in India.
Minister George stated that the state is fully prepared to handle the situation, with 14 state-run hospitals equipped to manage emergencies related to the disease. She urged individuals, especially those arriving from abroad, to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms. “All arrangements for isolation have been prepared across the state in hospitals, and nodal officers have been appointed to tackle this,” she said.
The patient, a 38-year-old man who returned from the UAE last week, was initially placed under observation due to suspected MPox. After a few days, he developed rashes and a fever. He was admitted to the state-run Manjeri Medical College Hospital on September 16, where he is currently isolated. Medical professionals attending to him reported that his fever had subsided.
The state health department is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
