  • Jairam Ramesh is seeking the position of Co-convenor of I.N.D.I.A. In the Mumbai meeting on September first, it will be announced.
  • 8 senior spokespersons for I.N.D.I.A. will be announced. In Mumbai, only those 8 will join the TV news channels debate.
  • TMC is not keen so as is DMK. Jairam Ramesh is convincing these parties to nominate one.
  • I.N.D.I.A will not join debates on a few TV channels like republic times now.
  • M K Stalin is the senior vice Chairman of I.N.D.I.A.
  • Mamata Banerjee will be chairman of the steering committee.
  • Only Congress leaders are behind these strategies. None of the seniors from the other parties are that much enthusiastic.

Family rift on display

The BJP leadership has ensured Chirag Paswan of the LJP faction is back in the NDA fold. But this political reunion seems to have not succeeded in mending the rift within the larger Paswan family and it was on display during LS debate on no-trust motion. Chirag was seen walking into the House just after his cousin and MP of the rival LJP faction Prince Raj completed his speech. In a tit-for-tat, both Raj and his uncle-cum-minister Pashupathi Paras were seen leaving the House right ahead of Chirag’s turn to speak.

No Lord of The House

Senior lawyer and BJP leader Mahesh Jethmalani while speaking on the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha, addressed the House Chairman by saying, your lordship. Realizing his mistake Jethmalani said that it happens because, on the same day, he attends court as well as the Upper House. The is is not new for Jethmalani. Earlier in last April, while intervening in a speech he addressed Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh as My Lord.

Still there, price doesn’t matter

Skyrocketing tomato prices have been a cause of concern. So much so, that many fast food chains have removed tomato from their menu, except Coffee Board Canteen in Parliament where its famous tomato sandwich is very much visible in the menu. Besides sandwiches, tomatoes were visible in Parliament recently when AAP MP Sushil Gupta came to the House wearing a tomato garland as a mark of protest against the rising prices of the key vegetable of every household.

A guest at the gallery

On the third and last day of the debate on the no-confidence motion, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s wife was present in Lok Sabha’s guest gallery. She heard speeches of both her husband and also some part of PM Modi. Though Congress led by its leader Chowdhury walked out of the House, she remained at the guest gallery for some time to hear PM Modi speak.

Trying to build bridges

Known for building dams, Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar this time tried to build bridges that too within the BJP. At a recent event, Ajit spoke highly about the fitness level of BJP leader and minister Girish Mahajan. Ajit claimed that the minister was so fit that he didn’t look his age in spite of being over 60. Mahajan, who was present during the event, was clearly not impressed. After the event, he said how several years ago Ajit told him that he would not get any development funds for his constituency in Jalgaon and that Ajit had stayed true to his word till date. Clearly, building bridges has not worked!

Star crossed

Hema Malini BJP MP from Agra in Uttar Pradesh had refused to be a signatory to the protest letter signed by several women MPs from the BJP against flying kiss gestures by Rahul Gandhi while leaving the House. The move was spearheaded by Smriti Irani. Malini said she had not seen Rahul’s impugned gesture. The BJP is already annoyed with Malini for declaring unilaterally in her constituency that she will contest only from Mathura or not at all.

Long weekend for New Delhi

Delhi can look forward to an extended weekend in September with the government likely to announce a holiday on September 8, a day before the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
With over 20 heads of government/ state in the capital, the government expects a massive security build-up that will disrupt traffic and movement across the city. Not only is movement across central Delhi going to be disrupted with leaders travel ling from the hotel to the venue – Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan), but security at the borders will also be beefed up with strict screening protocols in place. While a final decision has not been taken, government sources said a public holiday will save people the trouble of navigating through traffic to come to work.

Vajpayee for Road, Modi succeeded in many rail connectivities in India

If Vajpayee had Golden Quadrilateral, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is writing a rail legacy-Modi’s speech at a recent event to launch a “revamp of 508 rail stations” was touted as the “biggest such infrastructure ceremony”. It was also another proof of the Modi govt focus on Railways from the start. August 6 launch of “redevelopment of 508 railway stations across India” under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme — touted as “the biggest such ceremony in the infrastructure space” — again underlined the Narendra Modi government’s focus on the Railways and the Prime Minister in particular. From his presence at the launch of his government’s showpiece Vande Bharat trains to grand projects like August 6, Modi is there to flag off projects himself.

Journalist Nidhi Sharma’s new book

She, the Leader: Women in Indian Politics, offers insightful, untold stories about women politicians. For instance, Bansuri Swaraj, Sushma Swaraj’s daughter, confirms the popular impression that her mother was shell-shocked when she was dropped from the Cabinet in 2019 without any advance warning. Even when she reached Rashtrapati Bhavan for the swearing-in, Swaraj was still hopeful.
