The following is a summary of the speech given by Dr. Subramanian Swamy at Mumbai on April 17th, whose video link is also provided.
Background – Ramayan/ Ram Rajya
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]R[/dropcap]am was called “Maryada Purushottam” because he lived his life abiding by his duties. His ways were ideal, just and fair. When Ram promised Sita that he will not have any other woman in his life (at a time when polygamy was rampant), Sita, in turn, promised him that at any point of time in his kingdom a situation arises where there is a possibility of stigma on Ram, then she will sacrifice herself to save him from the shame.
When Sita was kidnapped, Ram never thought of another woman. Similarly, when there were rumors against Sita, in spite of Ram not telling her to go, she left and gave Agnipariksha.
The first instance of decentralisation in governance was seen in Ramayana when Ram preferred local Vaanar-Sena to fight Raavan and didn’t take the help of the vast army in Ayodhya. He preferred to treat each part of the country with equal importance and responsibility.
Lord Ram was called Imam-E-Hind by the poet Iqbal. (The one who wrote Saare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara)
Mahatma Gandhi & Rajiv Gandhi favoured Ram Rajya kind of Governance.
Mosque/Temple
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]I[/dropcap]n countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, etc Mosques have been destroyed and relocated to pave the way for development. In Mecca, a Mosque where Prophet Mohammad used to pray regularly was destroyed to build a palace for a sheikh. The UNESCO protested against it. The people there justified that it is merely a prayer hall. The purpose of the mosque is to provide a space for the prayer, which can otherwise happen anywhere. Even in Pakistan, Musharraf destroyed 6 mosques to pave way for roads.
So why can’t the Babri Masjid be relocated on the other side of the Sarayu river? The Allahabad High Court has affirmed that the central dome belongs to “Ram Lala”.
Before a temple is built, they perform “Pranpratisthta” for the idol and thus the temple then becomes the property of the God and the people involved are merely the trustees.
So irrespective of the Temple being used, it remains the property of the residing Idol, according to the Hindu laws.
The Case for Ram Mandir
[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]W[/dropcap]hen P V Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister, a cabinet resolution was passed that if it can be proved that there was a temple at the given site before a mosque, the whole land will be given to Hindus.
As asked by the Supreme Court, the Allahabad Court summoned The Archeological Survey of India to conduct tests on the site to determine the existence of the temple (Bhavya Mandir) before the Mosque. The findings showed that indeed a very prosperous temple existed there and the mosque was built from the remains of the temple. But the mosque is incomplete.
In the year 1994, after the destruction of the Babri Masjid by a mob of people, a small shed like Ram temple was built at the site. The court passed the order that the daily rituals can be performed at the temple following certain limitations set by the court. And the rituals are performed ever since.
Around the vicinity of “Ram Janmabhoomi”, there are seven mosques which are idle from last 50 years.
The Supreme Court assigned Dr. Subramanian Swamy to be the intervenor in the case and try to sort it outside the court.
To do this he convinced the members of the Sunni Wakf board and other Muslim authorities for day to day hearings on the case. But they backed out at the courtroom. The court asked him to get the written acceptance on this matter.
He hopes to get the court orders in the favour of Ram Mandirby the end of July, and the celebrate the next “Ramnavani “ at the “Ram Janmabhoomi”.
