Reactor blast at Hyderabad: Explosion at Pashamailaram industrial unit triggers massive fire and panic

Reactor blast at Hyderabad: A devastating reactor explosion at a chemical plant in Pashamailaram, located near Hyderabad in Sangareddy district, left at least six workers feared dead and over 20 others injured on Monday morning.

The blast occurred around 9 a.m. at Sigachi Chemicals, a facility operating in the region’s industrial zone. The force of the explosion triggered a large-scale fire that rapidly spread across the premises.

Firefighting and rescue operations underway

Fire services responded promptly, deploying eleven fire engines to bring the blaze under control. Rescue teams, including police and emergency responders, began operations to evacuate workers and transport the injured to both government and private hospitals. Several of the injured are in critical condition.

Eyewitness accounts described the intensity of the blast, stating that workers were hurled into the air and landed several meters away. The reactor explosion caused part of the manufacturing unit to collapse and extended the fire to adjacent buildings.

Casualties and ongoing search efforts

Initial reports indicate six fatalities at the scene, with one additional death reported at a hospital. However, officials have not yet released a confirmed death toll. Many of the injured workers are migrants from states such as Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

Rescue teams are using earthmovers to clear debris, amid concerns that more workers may be trapped under the collapsed structure. The incident triggered panic among nearby workers, who fled the facility and the surrounding areas.

Officials monitor situation on the ground

Sangareddy District Collector P Pravinya and Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj are overseeing relief efforts at the site. Personnel from nearby industrial units and various government departments have also joined the rescue operation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion and assess structural damages. Further updates are expected as operations progress.
