Manish Sisodia moves SC against arrest by CBI in Delhi liquor ‘scam’ case; CJI agrees to hear the matter today

On Tuesday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia moved the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi liquor policy case. The matter was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud at 10.30 am for an urgent listing who agreed to hear it at 3.50 pm on Tuesday.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Sisodia, mentioned the plea for an urgent hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud.

Initially, the Chief Justice advised Singhvi to move the plea before the high court. But the senior advocate insisted on an urgent hearing. The CJI then said that the apex court will be hearing the matter at 3.50 p.m.

On Monday, a Delhi court sent Sisodia to a five-day CBI custody in connection with the now-scrapped liquor policy case.

Special judge M K Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court, who had reserved his order after arguments from both sides, pronounced his order sending the AAP leader to custody till March 4.

The CBI arrested Sisodia on Sunday after eight hours of questioning.

Appearing for the central probe agency, Special Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta argued: “Investigation has revealed that Sisodia verbally directed the Secretary to put a new cabinet note to bring about the change and variance in the policy. He was heading the Group of Ministers constituted by the cabinet for the Excise Policy…

“The profit margin was enhanced from 5 percent to 12 percent. He could not explain why the changes were made.”

  1. The transparency and fairness in the hearing and listing process can only be achieved by use of technology and AI. Discretionary exercise of power is obviously a domain of the few, why ? If the justice is perceived to be in the stranglehold of the few, it is only a matter of time before the faith gets destroyed. The comments, observation and even orders are often seen to be shown the dustbin, not a very healthy trend. A carefully cultivated corrupt system is not easy to be got rid of.

  2. Unfortunately for Killjiwal, he escaped working all these years, now he is made to work ……….death to democracy in Delhi!! Killjiwal was elected to sit on chair, Modi is making him to work !! Black day for democracy

  3. Strange – SC agrees to review the plea, then directs them to Delhi High Court. In between a big drama & media struggling to capture TRP ratings – case of confused Supreme Court & Lawyers – Dushyant Dave + Kapil Sibal + Abhishek Manu Singhvi ?

  4. Sisodia should not be arrested and he should be treated softly with all chocolates & ice creams for summer is going to start now. Supreme Court CJI is also worried that NO 3rd degree treatment should be given to him. He is a visionary & a saint of 18 ministerial skills. He brought revolutionary education model (selling education alognside liquor). He is likely to be nobel prize nominee in addition to being Oscar & Grammy awards nominee from India.

He is BACK (spine) breaking & record breaking visionary for having integrated / united / stitched / joined with fevicol (majboot jod) North & South India (better than Amul’s love – which can get broken sometimes / few times / anytime) in a single deal single handedly.
